The Chin people take great pride of her as a great woman of our kindred to attain such a high office in the country of the second largest population in the world to be an example and courage to young women of our people both on India and Burma sides.

Born to (late) Pi Hatkholhing and Pu SL Palal in Imphal on 18.05.1957, she graduated in BA (Hons) English from the North Eastern University (NEHU), Shillong in the year 1977. She joined IFS in 1980 while studying for Master Degree in Miranda House, Delhi University. She is married to Pu Gautam Mukhopadhya, an IFS topper of the same batch, in a Church in Paris on 29.03.1985. They have two lovely children: Maya (Lhingneichong) 20 and Mihir (Chonmang) 17 years respectively. During her remarkable career, she has held the following assignments successfully:
1. Indian Ambassador to Lebanon since 2005, 2. Joint Secretary at Headquarters, 3. Deputy Consul General of India, New York, 4. Director at Headquarters, 5.. First Secretary, Indian Embassy, Cuba, 6. Second Secretary, Indian High Commission, Bangladesh, 7. Third Secretary, Indian Embassy, Mexico. She also speaks Spanish and Bengali fluently besides English and Hindi. She is among the chosen few, and the first Indian Foreign Service Officer, who is warded the "Prime Minister's Award for Administrative Excellence 2009".
